 | 26th Sep 2006 | Sinking Catamaran off Rhoose Point.
Report of a sinking 20ft Catamaran at Rhoose Point. Barry Dock Lifeboat took the vessel under tow, and Atlantic College ILB checked the vessel for possible casualties, but nobody was on board. The catamaran was towed to Atlantic College boat house, at St Donat's, where the vessel was searched. Police attended the scene, and paperwork from the vessel was handed over.

Joint Mud Training Exercise, with Barry, Penarth and Chepsow Coastguard Teams. The training session was held at the Old Harbour Barry, and was used to familiarise ourselves with out new mud rescue equipment.

 | 20th Oct 2005 | Dog Rescued from Cliff, 20th October 2005
Report of a dog stuck 10m up a cliff at Jackson's Bay. Barry Coastguard were tasked and recovered the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. RSPCA and the Dog Warden were informed, and attended the call. The dog, who was reported missing in August 2005, was micro chipped and returned to it's owner by the Dog Warden.

 | 21st Aug 2005 | Bracken Fire on Sully Island 21-08-05
While on patrol, Barry Coastguard came across a Bracken Fire on Sully Island. The Fire Service were called, who decided that the best optioon was to evacuate the Island and allow the fire to burn out in it's own time. Barry Coastguard assisted in the evacuation and ensured that no one else went onto the island until the causeway flooded.

 | 25th Jul 2005 | Casualty airlifted 25th July 2005, with back injuries.
Request from the ambulance to assist in the recovery of a gentleman that had fallen over at Porthkerry beach/park, and injured his back. Barry coastguard tasked to assist. Due to injuries and nature of terrain, rescue helicopter 169 from RAF Chivenor was tasked to airlift the casualty. Barry coastguard assisted in carrying the casualty on the stretcher, and providing a landing site for the helicopter.

 | 28th May 2005 | Vehicle stuck on Knap (pebble) beach.
These are a few photos of a vehicle that was stuck on Knap beach on the 28th May 2005. No lives were at risk so the Coastguard were not involved, however Barry Coastguard observed. The vehicle was eventually taken off the beach by a vehicle recovery company.

Photo's of a joint training exercise with Barry and Llantwit Major Coastguard teams. This comprised of a search between Ogmore by Sea car park and Cwm Nash, to find three missing persons. They were found at Dunraven Bay, where a cliff rescue was carried out to recover the casualties.

Here are a selection of photos I took of a 60ft Fin Whale washed ashore on mud flats near Newport, Gwent. Coastguard teams from Penarth and Barry have been keeping the carcass under surveillance.

Incident 614, 24th July 2004: Request from Ambulance service to assist in the recovery of a boy who had fallen from the cliff at Fontygary (approx 10'), and fractured his ankle. Casualty transferred to ambulance by stretcher, and taken to hospital. Coastguard, Ambulance, Fire Service and Air Ambulance were in attendance.

Here is an article from the South Wales Echo, published 8th April 2004. The crew of Barry Dock Lifeboat speak of their tears for the two lifeboat crew from Barmouth Lifeboat, who were tragically lost in April 2004.

The team was called out, at the request of the Police, to evacuate members of the public from Friar's Point. The photo's show waves breaking over (and on top of) the point, yet some people still couldn't understand why they couldn't go for a walk on it !

Here are a few pictures of a vessel that ran aground on the Causeway between Sully Island and the mainland on the 31st May 2003. Damage was caused to the propeller shafts, but it was towed into Penarth Marina by Penarth Lifeboat the next morning.
The pictures were taken using the camera on my mobile phone, hence the small size..
